Gas tanker loses trailer on Highway 26; crash causes fuel spill
This is a press release courtesy of the Oregon State Police
A tanker trailer loaded with approximately 4,000 gallons of gasoline separated from a tanker truck Monday morning and crashed off the side of Highway 26 about 1 1/2 miles west of Welches Road on Highway 26. The highway remained closed for several hours as the company off-loaded the remaining gasoline into another tanker trailer and ODOT had a detour in place. According to Oregon State Police Recruit Trooper Ted Moisan, on May 19, 2008 at approximately 5:40 a.m., a Cascade Petroleum Transportation company tanker truck pulling a tanker trailer was eastbound on Highway 26 near milepost 39 when the trailer separated from the tanker truck. The trailer crashed off the eastbound shoulder and reportedly damaged a PGE power pole and lines. The trailer was leaking about 5 gallons per minute according to fire and police personnel on scene. Highway 26 was closed in both directions with a detour using Barlow Trail Road. No one was injured and no citations have been issued. The incident is under investigation.
