Fatigued driver cited after hitting car head-on
This is a press release courtesy of the Oregon State Police Two people received minor injuries Saturday afternoon in a fatigue-related head-on crash on Highway 99W south of Corvallis.
According to Oregon State Police (OSP) Senior Trooper Brad Hales, on June 14, 2008 at approximately 1:25 p.m. a 2001 Mazda sport utility vehicle driven by Janet R. Sletten, age 70, from Eugene, was southbound on Highway 99W near milepost 92 when it drifted over into the northbound lane causing a northbound Jeep to take evasive action by driving into the east ditch. A northbound 1997 Mitsubishi Eclipse driven by Jose J. Gonzalez Medina, age unknown, from Corvallis, was behind the Jeep and collided head-on with the Mazda. Both drivers were transported to Good Samaritan Hospital in Corvallis with minor injuries. They were using safety restraints. OSP troopers investigating the crash identified fatigue as a factor in the crash. Sletten she was cited for Failing to Drive Within a Traffic Lane. Highway 99W was re-opened about 4 p.m. |
