2 arrested for robberies at coffee stands, mobile phone shops

TIGARD, Ore. – There is now relief for the victims of an accused brother-sister robbery crime duo.

Merle "Dee" Stedman, 24, and his sister, 26-year-old Stena Mejia were arrested for a string of crimes targeting local businesses.

Justin Lesher, owner of Black Rock Coffee Bar drive-thru, has made some big changes after his stand was hit twice to make things safer for employees, including spending more time working at the stand.

"(We've) taken it very seriously," he said. "We've made a lot of changes as far as our security system and also how we operate in here when there's only one person. So we're definitely making sure it doesn't happen again."

Lesher said he just wants everyone to feel safe working at the stand.

Detectives say Stedman and Mejia robbed the stand twice along with several other businesses. That's why news the sheriff's office captured the two people it believes are responsible for the crimes has Lesher and his staff feeling a bit more at ease.

"It was kinda just a big sigh of relief," Lesher said. "I want this to be over with; I want to get back to a little bit more normal life here."

In all, investigators say the duo robbed three coffee stands and three mobile phone shops dating back to May. The robberies happened in Beaverton, Tigard and Hillsboro.
