TILLAMOOK, Ore. -- A search for two missing hikers ended last night when they were found dead near the Cedar Creek Campgrounds off Highway 6.

Searchers looking for two missing campers in Tillamook County found the bodies of Justin Norton and Nicholas Santangelo after locating a fatal car crash in the Diamond Mill area near the Cedar Creek Campgrounds off Highway 6, according to county emergency authorities. Authorities have been searching for them since around 11:30 a.m. Tuesday.

The men reportedly left the campground around midnight in a 1998 green Ford Explorer with Oregon license plate WBR 922. They were supposed to return by 2 a.m.

Their vehicle was found around 8 p.m. last night in the Tillamook State Forest after it went off a gravel road and rolled several hundred feet down a steep hillside where both occupants were ejected from the vehicle.

Tillamook County Search and Rescue, Tillamook County Sheriff’s Office, Oregon Department of Forestry and U.S. Army Assets are all involved in the search.

Searchers recovered the dead campers bodies Saturday morning.
