Suspected car thieves critically injured in 100 mph chase
FIFE, Wash. -- Two suspected car thieves were critically hurt when they crashed a stolen car on I-5 while attempting to elude police.
Auburn police Commander Mike Hiram said an officer spotted the car getting onto Highway 18 just before midnight.
The officer followed while waiting for backup and turned on his lights and siren after the suspected thieves merged onto southbound I-5 near the Federal Way truck scales.
The driver of the stolen car sped off, reaching speeds of 100 mph, Hiram said.
As officers were backing off the chase in Fife, the driver lost control while changing lanes and rolled the car over. Both men were ejected from the car.
Medics took the two men to a local hospital where they were listed in critical condition. No one else was hurt, but another car did sustain some damage from flying debris, Hiram said.
The southbound lanes of the freeway were closed for several hours through the night for the crash investigation but reopened around 5 a.m.

On the flipside, this ugly car came out fairly decent ..had it been to days tin can....they would be dead.
well looks like it will be a while before they see justice.. how much is there hospital bill going to be?
If you're going to steal a car, at least steal a nice one. Â This car is probably at it's top speed and decided to off itself.
Now where did I put my really really really small violin??

Why does society spend resources providing medical care in cases like this?
Because they have rights.
I find it really hard to feel bad about their fate...why is that, I wonder? :-P
Â
360 people are killed by high speed chases a year. www.pursuitsafety.org
It is a good thing that nobody else got hurt because HIGH SPEED CHASES NOT CALLED FOR EVER!
Â
Someone got a '78 Monte Carlo to do 100?
Â
Mine would only go 60.
 @Kushfan I had an '85 with a 305..It had a suspension package and I put a 4 barrel on it .. What a difference .. I actually miss it..
But yeah, what doggy cars when stock .. Had also a '77 Malibu that took the cake. Total boat..
 @eeyore46  @Kushfan Had a friend who bought a 78 with the V6 (non-turbo). Woof-woof.... Ooooooooouuuuuuuu!Â
Â
The fuel mileage wasn't even dramatically that improved. He tried to mate the Grand National engine to it with less than spectacular results. (xmsn made a pretty color smoke before it exploded the first time he took it out). Funny thing is, by the time he finally got the GNx engine in there, he could have just bought the whole car for less money.Â
 @eeyore46  @Kushfan Could you throw some 350 heads on that thing, and some headers? hehe
 @Kushfan Did you have a v-6or a 305?
 @randomdude The 305.  What a dog and a half.
 @randomdude  @Kushfan You take all the smog BS off.
 @Kushfan Lol. Yeah, smog motor all the way.
Poor car. Survived all these years till meeting those nitwits.
'dude... watch me outrun these brand-new, highly modified and professionally driven police interceptors with my 30 year old monte carlo. I know how to drive, I have grand theft auto on my Xbox.'
Â
At the very least, they deserve to end up in the honorable mentions for this years Darwin awards. Thankfully, nobody else got hurt. As the saying goes... stupid is as stupid does.Â
 @MarkKpic Especially if it is a Charger.
 @randomdude  @MarkKpic I'll fully admit that I'm speculating here.... but, going by the picture, a primered mid-70s monte carlo, alloy modular rims, high-profile (presumed) used tires, (presumption given the spin-out and rollover) no sway bars.... and an overconfident, incapable driver who overestimates the handling capabilities of their vehicle....Â
Â
I remember in the early 80's when some police departments had K-cars.... I strongly suspect that they could have overtaken these nit-wits.
Â
The one police car in the photos appears to be a crown vic... I believe that the  police interceptor package had the 3.5l 250hp engine, performance rated tires, front sway bars... and most departments require a minimum 8 hours a year on course training in their vehicles practicing persuit driving.
Â
Comparitively, I'm thinking that's about like a soap box derby in a street course against a F40.Â
 @randomdude  @MarkKpic or the caprice.
 @Jeepers Yes the chargers look mean, but the caprice out performs them.
 @Jeepers Gotta give ya that... The new police package chargers definately have that 'dont f around' look to them.Â
The new caprice does look pretty cool, but the charger just looks mean.
At least this classic Monte Carlo gangsta-mobile didn't crash into a landslide. Glad no one else got hurt in this incident!
I'm almost sorry that these idiots we not wearing seat belts (ejected). Not sorry for them, but for the hospital/county/state/everyone else that will be stuck with their medical bills.
At least no innocent people were injured. As for those two, you reap what you sow.
Poor car. RIP!
Suspected car thieves............................... they were just moving it to a safe place.......
Thatâs too bad, probably one of the last Monte Carlos from that body style that hasn't been lowered and 20's put on it.
Please, no life saving efforts for the two turds. Let nature take its course
 @wondering But do whatever is necessary to save that car!!!
Judging by that lift on the passenger side of the trunk I'm afraid I'm going to have to call it totaled..... Maybe some worthless criminals will be called the same soon.
 @Jeepers Yup.. It is a gonner for sure ..
