PORTLAND, Ore. - The mother of a 50-year-old man who was severely beaten and who died at the hospital the same day is hoping for tips that will lead to the person or persons who killed her son.

In May of 2007, Norma Gavin's son, Robert Borges, was found beaten behind a Plaid Pantry store at the corner of North Lombard and North Greeley.  He later died at the hospital.

According to police, Borges lived a transient lifestyle but his mother said he lived at home and only spent time with transients while collecting cans.

Gavin thinks her son may have known the person who attacked him.

"I'd like him to pay for what he did," she said. "It would make it easier on me to know he's not out there killing somebody else."

Crime Stoppers is offering a cash reward of up to $1,000 for information, reported to Crime Stoppers, that leads to an arrest in this case.  You may remain anonymous. Call Crime Stoppers at (503) 823-HELP (4357).
