PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) - An Oregon Army National Guard helicopter has been dispatched to assist in the rescue of a man who suffered a head injury while climbing Mount Hood.

The Clackamas County Sheriff's Office says a cell phone caller reported that the climber had fallen roughly 100 feet Sunday.

The caller said a doctor and a paramedic were in the climbing party and providing assistance to the man, who is in his 30s and conscious.

Sheriff's spokesman Detective Jim Strovink says the climbers are in the vicinity of "Devil's Kitchen," which lies at about 10,000 feet.

National Guard spokeswoman Kay Fristad says the helicopter was to be in the air before 2 p.m., and it will hoist the climber from the mountain and then take him to Portland's Legacy Emanuel Hospital.
