ALOHA, Ore. - Two boys escaped a fire that destroyed a doublewide manufactured home, scorched several trees and threatened another home in Aloha Tuesday, fire officials said.

The boys, ages 7 and 10, discovered the flames in the home at the Pine Ridge Mobile Home Park on Southwest 195th Avenue shortly before 1 p.m. and ran to the home of a neighbor, who called 911, according to Storm Smith, a spokesman for Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue. Another neighbor awakened residents in a home adjacent to the fire, and those residents also escaped unharmed, Smith said.

The blaze raced into nearby trees, scorching several fir and cedar trees up to 60 feet high, Smith said. It also damaged a Dodge pickup in the carport and killed a cat.

According to fire officials, the mother and grandmother of the boys were away from the home when the fire ignited. The mother told KATU her 14-year-old daughter was babysitting the boys but was outside at the time.

Officials were still investigating the cause of the fire Tuesday. A damage estimate was also unavailable.

The children's grandmother, 54-year-old Mary L. Addison, told investigators she owned the home but had no insurance, Smith said. Crews with the American Red Cross were helping her and her roommate, 48-year-old Jim Horton, with shelter.
