Child falls out of window in Canby
CANBY, Ore. - A 2-year-old child fell from a second-story window in Canby on Thursday, the second time in just a few days that Canby firefighters have responded to this type of incident.
According to witnesses, the child landed head first after falling out of a window at a home on South Locust Street. The child was flown by LifeFlight to the hospital.

On Tuesday, another child fell from a two-story window in Canby, landing feet first on a concrete pad. That child was hospitalized as well.
And last week in Portland, a child between the ages of four and six years old fell from a two-story window at a home on Northeast 20th Avenue onto a concrete surface and was hospitalized.
Canby firefighters want to remind parents that screens are made to keep bugs out, not children in. Here are some good safety tips to keep in mind:
- Arrange furniture so children cannot easily access windows.
- If you need to keep windows open, pin them in the open position with only enough of an opening so that air can move through, but so the child cannot crawl out.
- The Canby Fire District does not encourage the use of bars or barricades, as the window is still your emergency exit.
- If you cannot adequately safeguard a window, use a different window to let the fresh air in.
