GRESHAM, Ore. - A suspect in a robbery and burglary died Saturday after he lost control of his vehicle while speeding through a Gresham neighborhood and crashed into a home, police said.

John B. Renoud, 42, was taken to Legacy Emanuel Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, Gresham police said.

No one was hurt inside the home, which is located in the 19300 block of Northeast Clackamas Street, according to Gresham police Sgt. Claudio Grandjean.

Police had been searching for Renoud since early Friday, when a victim identified him as one of several people who entered a home in the 1200 block of Northeast 183rd about 4 a.m. and robbed those inside.

Unable to find him at the time, officers later tracked him down to a home in the 1100 block of Northeast 183rd about 3:30 a.m. Saturday, Grandjean said. As they planned how to confront him, a white Dodge Durango sped away from the area so fast that officers lost track of it, he said.

The driver plowed through a fence to get around a dead-end street but eventually crashed into the home about 10 blocks away.

The Dodge hit a car and a mailbox, clipped the side of a house and drove over a fence before smashing into a car parked inside the garage of the home on Clackamas Street, Grandjean said.

The force of the collision pushed the parked car into the home's living room, he said. Those inside were jolted awake from the crash.
