Two killed when Amtrak train and car collide
By Adam Ghassemi & News ServicesCANBY, Ore. - Two people were killed when an Amtrak train and a car collided in Canby late Friday night.
The incident happened around 10:30 p.m. where Highway 99E and Pine intersect, near the Clackamas County fairgrounds. The two people who were killed were inside the vehicle. Authorities did not expect to release their identities until at least Monday. No one on the train was injured but 50 people were evacuated following the collision. The Cascades route train was southbound from Seattle to Eugene.
The train, which had an engine at each end with about eight passenger cars between, pushed the vehicle for more than 200 yards before it could stop. The crash sparked a small fire.
