Father who intervened in son's fight may face assault charges
By KOMO Staff
NEAR PURDY, Wash. -- What began as a fight between two boys has brewed into a fight in between their parents, with one mother calling for charges against the other boy's father.
The trouble began when two boys, 12 and 13, started fighting over swapping parts on a pair of BMX bicycles. When the younger boy refused to leave the other's yard without his bike, the father of the older boy got out the hose, aimed and pulled the trigger. Now he could be facing assault charges. The boy's mother claims the man grabbed her boy, putting him in a choke hold first before spraying him smack in the face. "The message that it sends is it's OK to grab a hold of somebody and shake them up a little bit, make them frightened," said Carman Henderson. Henderson not only wants the man charged with assault but also wants him held responsible for damaging her son's bicycle, saying she was furious when the man returned her son's smashed-up bike. "It's a good thing my husband wasn't home that day because the police never would have been involved," she said. Prosecutors will make the final decision. The two boys had just begun playing together this summer and the parents did not know each other. |
