EUGENE, Ore. -- The man ignored the bus driver's request to put the knife away, continuing to perform martial arts moves while pacing the aisle of the deserted city bus.

When the Lane Transit District driver got out of the bus, so did the man, who started walking down the street with what looked to police like a dagger with a 10-inch blade.

One of the two Lane County Sheriff's Deputy ordered the man to drop the knife. Instead, the man ran into traffic, still holding the knife. Then he turned and ran back onto the sidewalk -- and towards the deputies, knife in hand.

One of the deputies fired and hit the man with three shots, the last from 15 feet away.

No one was injured.

How?

Deputies used a bean bag shotgun to subdue the man, 25, who has a mental disability.

As for the knife, it turned out to be a realistic-looking toy.

The man faces charges of menacing and disorderly conduct.
