Salem auto dealer will pay fine in settlement with state
By Associated PressSALEM, Ore. (AP) - A local auto dealership will pay a $100,000 fine to the Oregon Attorney General's office, part of a settlement agreement between the state and Salem Nissan. The state Department of Justice found that Salem Nissan had been padding car sales contracts with several aftermarket products without warning customers that those products weren't necessities. Those services included extended service warranties, securities products, insurance and an ineffective gas-saving device called a Vortex Fuel Maximizer. Under the agreement, the company admitted no law violations. The program in question has been discontinued since May, said Gordon Hanna, attorney for Salem Nissan. If all conditions of the agreement are followed, $50,000 of the settlement will be suspended. |
