Police chase ends with suspect driving on rims

PORTLAND, Ore. – Police arrested on man after a vehicle chase that ended with the suspect driving his SUV on wheels with no tires and police hitting his vehicle to spin it out and end the pursuit.
Police said the incident began just before midnight Thursday on Northeast 122nd Avenue when the suspect, identified as Robert Duvall Cooper, 25, allegedly shoplifted some items from a WinCo market. Witnesses said Cooper nearly ran down a security guard with his vehicle as he sped from the parking lot. ![]() Police chased the SUV down several city streets and through neighborhoods and put down spike strips twice in efforts to stop the vehicle. With the rear tires of the SUV shredded to point the car was riding on the rear rims, police said Cooper managed to drive onto Interstate 205 and head north towards the airport. Police managed to spin out his vehicle near Northeast Airport Way and arrest Cooper. Representatives from WinCo would not reveal what Cooper allegedly stole. He now faces multiple charges for theft, eluding and assault. No one was injured in the pursuit. |
