Workers crushed by cement slab at construction site

SEATTLE -- Two men were crushed by a cement slab at a construction site Thursday, and one was critically injured.
Officials said the men were working at the site when a 20-foot long, 6-foot wide slab of cement fell on top of them inside a trench just before 9 a.m. When firefighters arrived at the scene near the intersection of 33rd Avenue South and South Oregon Street, one of the men had already made it out on his own, but the other was still pinned. Crews used airbags to lift the cement off the man and were doing CPR while he was rushed to Harborview Medical Center. His current condition is not known. The man who was able to get out before firefighters arrived was checked out by medics and expected to recover. It was not clear what caused the cement wall to collapse. |
