WILLAMINA, Ore. - A Willamina High School student was killed and three of her classmates were injured Wednesday morning when the pickup they were in collided with a commercial truck near Valley Junction.

Oregon State Police identified the 18-year-old killed in the wreck as Tamara L. Coila. She reportedly attended Canby High School prior to entering Willamina High for her senior year this year, state police said.

Coila was sitting in the back seat of a Ford Ranger extended cab pickup that was heading east on Highway 22 about a mile west of Valley Junction when the driver lost control around a curve about 8:30 a.m., state police said. The pickup crossed the centerline and collided with an oncoming truck about 8:30 a.m., state police said.

The driver of the pickup, 18-year-old Anthony Thomas Gorretta of Grand Ronde, was treated for minor injuries at a McMinnville hospital and released.

The front seat passenger, 14-year-old Vincent Gorretta, was taken by LifeFlight helicopter to Oregon Health and Science University for treatment of serious injuries.

Another back seat passenger, 17-year-old Jeff Haggard of Grand Ronde, was taken by REACH air ambulance to Legacy Emanuel Hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

The driver of the commercial truck, 38-year-old Raybon Dean Thompson of Cloverdale, was not hurt, police said.

Everyone involved was wearing a seat belt, police said.

Highway 22 was closed until about 1:30 p.m.
