PORTLAND, Ore. - Portland police are looking for the driver who hit a bicyclist early Tuesday and then took off.

The cyclist, 25-year-old Brendan Michael Cox, was riding south on Southeast 39th Avenue about 2:30 a.m. when a large truck heading the same direction struck his bike from behind near the intersection of Southeast Powell Boulevard, according to police.

Those who saw the victim after the collision said the cyclist was pretty banged up. Cox was taken to Oregon Health and Science University, where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Police said the cyclist was not wearing a helmet; however, witnesses said the bicycle did have a light on it.

Police said the suspect vehicle is a dark-colored, newer Ford F-250 pickup.

Anyone with information on the case was asked to call Officer Barry Busse of the Traffic Division at (503) 823-2216.
