Woman killed, husband shot by gunman in Longview
LONGVIEW, Wash. - Police have linked a 19-year-old man to the double shooting of his girlfriend's mother and father in Longview Tuesday morning.
Kathleen Marie Tubbs , 45, died at St. John Medical Center while her husband Robert Lee Tubbs was listed in satisfactory condition after being shot twice in the arm.
Anthony Michael James Scott, who lived at the couple's home with his girlfriend, was arrested about an hour after the 9 a.m. shooting in the Highlands neighborhood. He was booked on suspicion of first-degree homicide and first-degree attempted homicide, and his bail was set at $1 million.
Police and family friends said Scott and his girlfriend were in the process of breaking up prior to the shooting. Neighbors said Scott did not stay in the house Monday night but arrived Tuesday morning to pick up some of his clothes.
Police were not saying how the situation escalated or why they believe the couple was shot.
It was also not clear if the suspect's girlfriend was at home at the time of the shooting. She was not injured.
Police and Cowlitz County sheriff's deputies swarmed the Highlands area in response to the shooting. They found Scott in the 3200 block of Oak Street about 10:15 a.m. St. Helens Elementary School was locked down for about an hour as a precaution.
