PORTLAND, Ore. -- A man described by prosecutors as "sexually fixated on children" has cut off his GPS monitoring ankle bracelet and fled his Portland home, according to the U.S. Department of Justice.

Paul Eric Presley, 47, faced up to 71 months in prison but failed to show up for sentencing in U.S. District Court in Tacoma, Wash. Monday morning. Authorities believe that Presley, who was out on bond, cut off his ankle bracelet Saturday.

His whereabouts were unknown Monday.

Presley's failure to appear for his hearing means he may now be charged with a separate crime punishable by up to 10 years in prison.

Vancouver police, who investigated the case along with the FBI, said the evidence against Presley included more than 7,000 child pornography images and several hundred movie files of children engaged in explicit sexual conduct.

According to the Department of Justice, on Dec. 6, 2006, Vancouver police responded to a 9-1-1 call at Presley's home. His wife told officers Presley had child pornography stored on his desktop and laptop computers.

Officers seized the desktop computer but did not find the laptop. The next day Presley's daughter and her boyfriend delivered the laptop to police saying Presley had given them the computer and told them to dispose of it.

Presley pleaded guilty last March.

"Paul Eric Presley is sexually fixated with children," prosecutors said in asking for a 71-month sentence. "He has downloaded, stored and viewed thousands of images of child pornography."

Prosecutors added that evidence suggests Presley was openly sexually interested in at least one member of his own family.

Anyone with information on his whereabouts was asked to call 9-1-1 or the FBI at (360) 695-5661.
