Wash. town of Forks in 'Twilight' spotlight
By Associated Press
FORKS, Wash. (AP) - An old logging town on the Olympic Peninsula has turned into the setting for a teen vampire fantasy.
Forks has already been getting visitors from fans of the "Twilight" book series. Tourists are likely to take a bigger bite out of the town with the opening of the movie. The best-selling books by Stephanie Meyer tell the story of a girl named Isabella Swan who comes to live with her father, the police chief of Forks. She meets the mysterious Edward Cullen and falls in love with the vampire. Forks has a population of 3,200 and gets about 120 inches of rain a year. It's a 130-mile drive from Seattle. The movie opens Nov. 21. (Copyright 2008 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.) |
