PORTLAND, Ore. - A $2 leaf tax idea is being floated - one that would help crews be able to keep up with all of the fall leaves that end up in Portland's streets after folks rake or blow them away from their property.

"They're not supposed to shovel the leaves into the street but they do so in such numbers that I have to come up with a different approach," said Mayor elect Sam Adams. "But I think $2 a month to pick up the leaves and mulch them - I think citizens will support something like that."

The leaf tax, which amounts to $24 a year per household, would be added to a homeowner's garbage bill.
