Ore. anti-tax activist freed after night in jail

(AP) -- Oregon anti-tax activist Bill Sizemore is out of jail after complying with a judge's order to file state and federal forms for his charity. Sizemore was jailed Monday after a judge found him in contempt of a 2003 injunction that blocked him from using charitable organizations to raise money for political purposes. He spent about 24 hours in the Multnomah County Detention Center. He must still comply with the rest of the judge's ruling, including an order that he pay a judgment equal to the amount he received from his charity, the American Tax Research Foundation, which the judge called a sham. The judge said Monday it could take additional litigation to calculate the amount. |
