Part 2 In 1959 it was so cold you could walk to the middle of the Columbia River. The river did have a small area to flow, but where the boats were moored, the ice was at least 10 in deap. We lived off of Boones Ferry and had many cars left in our

HELLO, any one heard of CHAINS??

I have been feeding the hummingbirds. One got frozen to my windchime. After freeing his feathers he willingly drank from the feeder and seemed quite content to remain on my hand for the warmth. Eventually he flew away.

oh gosh...i was thinking about taking the bus downtown tomorrow but after seeing this i think i'll stick to walking!

WOW!!!! Like the newcasters have been saying don't go out unless it is urgent. Trimet is a great source in the snow but some highways/roads they just can get around on no matter what.

The Trimet buses ARE using chains.

Can anyone tell me why there has been a tri-met bus jack knifed at 47th and Halsey since this morning? It is still running and no one in sight? What is going on?

IT'S THE STEEPNESS OF THE HILL. NO MATTER WHAT YOU DRIVE OR HAVE ON THE TIRES WHEN YOU HAVE THE RIGHT CONDITIONS YOU WILL SLIDE . ICE AND HILLS DON'T MIX.

503-238-RIDE reported that the 35 Macadam line was running. It took 40 minutes to get down my hill; I caught a 6:20 a.m. bus, was told that they could get me to my destination but that there would be no return. They need to note that on the hotline.

My son hung a trouble light next to his hummer feeder kept the little birds warm and stopped the freezing of their food

aloha- when it comes to snow here in the portlan dmetro area and the state of oregon during winter. my in-law do work for tri-met and she does drive the tri-met bus she does have to drive slowely w/ chsins on her bus no matter how much snow.

The storms of 1949 and 1959 were much worce. In the winter of 1949 we had up to 4 feet of snow and a silver thaw on top of it. The ice was so bad that you couldnot break through it even in a snow drift. Then came 1959. see part 2.
