Major Wash. passes closed by snowfall
All highways across Cascade Mountain passes in Washington state are closed Thursday due to heavy snowfall or avalanche danger, the state Transportation Department reports.

Interstate 90 across Snoqualmie Pass has been closed from North Bend to Cle Elum, and the roadway will remain closed until crews can assess conditions, officials said.

"Avalanche control work will be completed before reopening, which could last most of the day," the state DOT said in a statement.

Highway 2 across Stevens Pass was closed at about 7:40 a.m. for avalanche control, and is expected to remain closed until about
4 p.m.

The latest to close was Highway 12 across White Pass, at about 8 a.m., due to a snowslide at the Rimrock Tunnel. That roadway will remain closed until crews can assess conditions and remove the slide, DOT officials said.

Updated information will be posted as it becomes available.

Highway 20 across the North Cascades has been closed since Dec. 22. No reopening date has been announced.
