NEWPORT, Ore. — The U.S. Coast Guard rescued two surfers trapped on the rocks near Yaquina Head north of Newport Sunday afternoon.

Someone called 911 about 2:30 p.m. reporting that three surfers needed rescue. However, one of the three was able to make it back to shore without help, according to Petty Officer Shawn Eggert.

A helicopter crew responded and hoisted a man and a 13-year-old girl from a spot near Otter Rock and took them safely to shore, Eggert said.

The 13-year-old was taken to a local hospital for treatment of shock and hypothermia, Eggert said.

The Coast Guard did not release the identities of any of those rescued.
