'Combative' suspect dies while in police custody
PORTLAND, Ore. - Police say a man who was combative after being arrested in northwest Portland died while in a police vehicle.

Officers say the man fought with police during his arrest, and fought with other inmates while in a holding cell.

While being transported to another facility Sunday night, police say an officer noticed the man had slumped over and had stopped breathing.

The officer pulled the vehicle over near Northeast 33rd Avenue and Sandy Boulevard and attempted to resuscitate the suspect.

He was pronounced dead at the scene. An investigation is continuing, and an autopsy is scheduled for Monday.
