SPOKANE, Wash. -- Politicians will do just about anything to get their message across, but the mayor of Spokane has put a beat behind her stump speech.

Mayor Mary Verner took to the stage this weekend at RAWK the Inland Northwest's Final Four, a youth band competition, to rap.

Verner, 52, performed alongside 19-year-old Eastern Washington University student Josh Ogle.

The rap focused on Verner's personal story, the history of Spokane, and on social justice issues.

Someone in the crowd shot video of Verner's rap and posted it on YouTube. Now the mayoral rap has become something of a minor internet sensation.
