Autopsy: Missing man found in lake died of accidental drowning

LONGVIEW, Wash. - A body found floating in Lake Sacajawea in Longview was identified as a man who disappeared last month after leaving a tavern and an autopsy determined he died of an accidental drowning.

Franklin E. McCoy, 37, was last seen leaving the Oregon Way Tavern in Longview just before 2 a.m. on Feb. 20.  His live-in girlfriend reported him missing shortly thereafter.  His family has been searching for him ever since and pleading for help from the public.

On Tuesday, someone noticed a body floating near the fishing dock at the southern tip of Lake Sacajawea and immediately called police.

The body was identified as that of McCoy.  An autopsy determined he died of an accidental drowning, pending toxicology results.  There was no sign of trauma on his body.

McCoy leaves behind his girlfriend and three sons.  He was employed at Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway.
