Detectives from the Portland Police Bureau’s Missing Persons Unit are requesting the public’s help in locating a missing freshman student from the University of Portland.  18-year-old Juan Manuel Garcia was reported missing during the early morning hours on Tuesday, March 17, 2009, after property belonging to Garcia was reportedly found near downtown Portland and was turned over to Portland Police.

The University of Portland has been cooperating with detectives, who have visited the campus and have interviewed numerous witnesses, including Garcia’s roommate.  At this time, there is no indication of foul play, and detectives have determined Garcia may be suffering from a medical condition which, if left untreated, could immediately endanger his welfare.

Witnesses report that Garcia was last seen on campus on Monday morning, March 16, 2009.  Family and friends told detectives that Garcia had not given any indication that he intended to leave and they describe his sudden disappearance as very unusual.

Garcia is described as an 18-year-old Hispanic male, 6’5”, weighing 165 pounds, with short black hair and brown eyes.  He has a barbell piercing over his right eyebrow.  There is no clothing description available.

Anyone with information about Garcia’s whereabouts is asked to call 9-1-1.  Anyone with additional information is asked to contact Detective Mike Weinstein, 503-823-0446 or Detective Tim Sukimoto, 503-823-0462.
