Is anyone riding the new WES line?
PORTLAND, Ore. - TriMet's new commuter rail line to Wilsonville has been in service for two months and the ridership numbers are pretty low so far.
Right now, WES is averaging 1,200 riders a day but its capacity is closer to 4,700.
However, TriMet says you have to keep in mind that WES, a rush-hour only service, is tailored to a specific type of passenger - working folks - and that in our bad economy that can be hard to come by. So TriMet is accepting the low ridership numbers but are hoping to average 2,400 riders a day by the end of the year.
There have been requests to move service outside of rush hour times and run all day but TriMet simply does not have the money for that right now.
