VANCOUVER, Wash. - A human leg was found along the Columbia River on Thursday, the third time human remains have shown up along the river in less than a week.

According to Lt. Jason Gates with the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office, the leg was found about a 1/2 mile east of the Interstate 205 bridge on the Washington side.

A gated community is off shore at the location and a maintenance worker is the person who discovered the leg.

On Wednesday, a woman found a severed human arm while walking her dog near Wintler Community Park, also on the Washington side.

On Sunday, a couple who went on a fishing trip off the east side of Government Island found a bag containing human remains.

Although the proximity of where all the remains were found is leading investigators toward the conclusion that they came from the same person, the Medical Examiner has not yet made that determination.

Late Thursday, police announced that they had identified the remains found in the bag, but were not releasing the name until they had a chance to notify next of kin.  Police from Washington did say they were turning over the case to the Portland Police Bureau.
