Seattle leaders try to save P-I globe
SEATTLE -- Three members of the Seattle City Council are calling for the Seattle P-I globe to be designated as a historical landmark.
Council members Tim Burgess, Sally Clark and Jean Godden - all former journalists - plan to submit an application to the Landmark Preservation Board.
A historical landmark designation would protect the P-I globe as long as it remains in Seattle.
"To me the globe represents a part of Seattle's journalistic history which needs to be kept alive for future generations," said Godden, a former P-I columnist.
The council members are working with former P-I journalists to prepare the necessary paperwork.
Seattle has designated more than 350 historical landmarks since 1973.
