Mayor Sam Adams' truck is seen on a tow truck following the crash.
PORTLAND, Ore. - No one was injured in a crash in front of a Car Toys store at Jantzen Beach on Sunday but folks at the scene were a little surprised to find out that Mayor Sam Adams was behind the wheel of one of the vehicles involved.
"At first, I didn't have any clue (it was him)," said Randy Schweitz, who works at Car Toys and witnessed the crash. "He looked a little familiar and I kind of looked at him. But then we saw the report and figured out it was actually the mayor."
The crash, which involved three vehicles, happened just after 7 p.m. on North Hayden Island Drive. Police did not release details but witnesses said the mayor's truck rear-ended a white Subaru and hit a parked Honda before coming to rest on the other side of the parking lot.
"I was just helping out a customer and everything was going good and then all of a sudden we hear a big crash and I look out the window and the truck just plows and just completely goes over the Honda," said Schweitz. "It was pretty scary, actually."

"I basically heard a loud sound and I looked up and saw Sam's truck come barreling between my car and the white Subaru," said Jacob Lothman, who also works at Car Toys. "And I was afraid he was going to hit the store but he stopped just in time."
Ryan Reed was driving one of the cars that got hit and he said it all happened in a split second. "I just made a right-hand turn and that's the last thing I remember," he said. "And I just got hit and sent across the driveway. Then the other car got hit."
A source with the Portland Police Bureau told KATU News they believed the mayor mistakenly hit the accelerator instead of the brake.
Police said no one was cited and added that they normally only conduct an investigation if there are signs of impairment or someone has been injured or killed. They said none of that applied in this case, so the parties involved just exchanged insurance information and the vehicles were towed from the scene.
Sam Adams, who did not have much to say about the crash, was seen leaving in a tow truck. He did not want to talk on camera, saying it was just a "fender bender" and a "personal matter."
