The Salem Police Department is investigating the takeover robbery of a coin shop where the owner was tased, then handcuffed as the suspects ransacked the business.

The incident was reported at 12:01 p.m. on May 13 when an acquaintance of the owner of Capitol Coin arrived at the business at 4670 Commercial St SE.  The acquaintance became suspicious when he found the doors locked and the windows covered up, so he went to a nearby business and called police.

It was reported that two suspects entered the business and tased and handcuffed the victim.  The suspects proceeded to cover the windows of the business, lock the doors, then ransack the business, smashing glass display cases and stealing a substantial amount of coins and other valuables.  The suspects spent a considerable amount of time in the business before fleeing.

The suspects are described as:

  • 1-White male adult, late 20s to early 30s, 6'02-6'03", 180 lbs, dark complexion with short hair and long sideburns.  He was wearing a dark hat, dark jacket, black faded pants and sunglasses.
  • 2-White male adult, late 20s to early 30s, 6'05"-6'07", 200 lbs, short hair and long sideburns.  He was dressed in a similar fashion to the first suspect.

A possible suspect vehicle was described as a red or maroon colored SUV or minivan.

The investigation is continuing.  Anybody with information on this case is asked to call Salem Police Detective Jamie Vasas at (503) 588-6050, extension 7153.
