Woman hits horse, dies in fiery crash
THE DALLES, Ore. (AP) - A woman from The Dalles was killed in a fiery car crash about one mile west of the city.
According to the Wasco County Sheriff's office, at about 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, 66-year-old Hazel Zitzelberger was on Highway 30 near The Dalles when she struck a horse.
Her vehicle then crossed into the oncoming lane and struck a vehicle driven by 20-year-old Brandon McKenzie, also of The Dalles.
A fire started as a result of the crash, which fully engulfed Zitzelberger's vehicle. She was pronounced dead at the scene. McKenzie and a passenger in his vehicle were uninjured. There is no word on the horse's condition.
Police say an investigation into the accident is continuing.
