An overwhelmed dog breeder in the St. Helens area surrendered more than three dozen Goldendoodle and Labradoodle dogs to the Oregon Humane Society on Thursday.

The dogs, which include 25 puppies, were taken to the OHS Shelter at 1067 N.E. Columbia Blvd. in Portland.

Faced with the onslaught of cold, rainy weather and the prospect of housing the dogs through the winter in a building with no heat or running water, the breeder turned to OHS for help in finding permanent adopted homes for the animals.

All of the puppies and adult dogs, including a mother with seven 3-day-old pups, will receive immediate medical attention at OHS and be offered for adoption as soon as possible. OHS does not place time limits on dogs offered for adoption and has one of the highest dog adoption rates in the country.

The animals that arrived at OHS are mostly Goldendoodles and Labradoodles, which represent a cross between a Labrador Retriever and a Poodle, or a Golden Retriever and a Poodle.

The dogs include: 18 puppies, eight adult dogs, four small mixed-breed dogs, and one female mother with seven 3-day-old puppies.
