Man charged in murder of his baby girl
ALOHA, Ore. - An Aloha man has been charged with killing his 2-month-old daughter, who died at a hospital Wednesday after suffering a head injury a day earlier, authorities said.
According to the Washington County Sheriff's Office, deputies were called to Legacy Emanuel Hospital Tuesday afternoon to investigate a baby that was possibly injured by abuse. The girl, Maya Gramajo, suffered a closed-head injury and was kept on life support while doctors tried to save her, the sheriff's office said.
Investigators determined that the girl's father, 32-year-old Eber Gramajo-Calderon, had called his wife saying there was a problem with their daughter, and the wife called 911 saying the girl was unconscious and not breathing at their home on Southwest Anna Court, the sheriff's office said.
Deputies learned that he was home alone with the child when the injury occurred, and he was arrested on assault charges Tuesday afternoon, the sheriff's office said.
However, his daughter was pronounced dead Wednesday at the hospital due to the severity of her injuries, and he was later arraigned on murder charges, the sheriff's office said.
Authorities declined to say what they think happened to the girl. One other child, a 16-month-old son, was also at home with the father when the injuries occurred but he was not hurt and was placed with relatives, the sheriff's office said.
The children's mother was not at home during the incident and is not facing any charges.
