Clean up efforts are underway following a minor injury commercial truck rollover crash on Highway 22 about four miles west of Detroit. The truck was transporting sheets of mirrored glass that spilled onto the highway.
According to Oregon State Police (OSP) Senior Trooper Doug Brown, on May 28, 2009 at approximately 4:00 p.m. a commercial truck driven by Dave Chavez, age not available, from Cave Junction, lost control and rolled, spilling the load of glass onto the highway. The truck and glass was blocking westbound and eastbound lanes but with the help of flaggers, traffic was able to get by intermittently on one shoulder.
Chavez was transported by ambulance to Santiam Memorial Hospital. The truck is registered to Combined Transport Inc. out of Central Point.
Senior Trooper Brown is continuing the investigation. ODOT and local emergency responders are assisting at the scene.
Preliminary estimates indicate the highway will be re-opened to traffic in about two hours and clean-up efforts may continue into Friday morning.
