Woman linked to pregnant woman's murder; baby dies

WASHINGTON COUNTY, Ore. - A Washington County woman has been arrested in connection with the murder of a 21-year-old pregnant woman, whose baby was delivered but died Friday after the suspect allegedly claimed it was her own.

Korena Elaine Roberts, 28, was lodged in the Washington County jail on a murder charge. She was being held without bail.

The bizarre story unfolded at a home at 13380 N.W. Mill Creek Drive near Beaverton Friday afternoon, when someone called 911 about 2:45 p.m. to report a newly born baby was in distress, according to the Washington County Sheriff's Office. Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue crews responded and found a man and Roberts in the house, and the man was performing CPR on the child.

Roberts told rescuers she had just delivered the child, the sheriff's office said. Crews saw a large amount of blood in the house and decided to quickly send the baby and Roberts to St. Vincent's Hospital, according to the sheriff's office said.

Doctors were not able to revive the baby. They also determined that Roberts had not delivered any baby in the recent past, the sheriff's office said. Investigators were called to the hospital about 4:30 p.m. and learned someone may be hurt at the Mill Creek Drive home.

Deputies entered that house and found the body of an unidentified woman in a crawlspace. Not long after, Roberts was arrested in connection with the murder, the sheriff's office said.

As detectives were trying to figure out the victim's identity Friday night, a man reported to Tigard police that his pregnant girlfriend, Heather Megan Snively, who was in her third trimester, was missing, the sheriff's office said. The man was the baby's father.

Detectives were then able to determine that the murder victim was Snively, who had just moved to the Tigard area from Maryland, the sheriff's office said.

An autopsy was also expected to determine how the baby was delivered.

Sgt. David Thompson, a sheriff's office spokesman, said the man initially found in the home with Roberts was her live-in boyfriend. He was cooperating with police and was not expected to be charged, Thompson said.

Roberts already has two children of her own, and they were staying with relatives Saturday, Thompson said.
