MILWAUKIE, Ore. — Police said a man discharged a can of pepper spray at officers who were trying to arrest him in Milwaukie Monday afternoon.
Six officers were treated at the scene for exposure to the spray, according to Officer Kevin Krebs, a Milwaukie police spokesman. They were identified as Officer John Downey, Officer Dan Cloyes, Officer Luke Strait, Sgt. John Hipes, Captain Steve Bartol and Chief Bob Jordan.
Krebs said officers responded to the 4200 block of Southeast Mason Lane about 4 p.m. after receiving a report that a man was harassing a neighbor. Police tried to contact the suspect inside his home, but the man threatened to hurt officers and was not cooperative, Krebs said. As officers tried to take him into custody on a probation detainer, the man sprayed them with pepper spray, he said.
Eventually 46-year-old Jeffrey Wayne Radabaugh was taken into custody after officers used a Taser on him, Krebs said. The man was charged with harassment, disorderly conduct and six counts of assault on a public safety officer.
Radabaugh was being held without bail at the Clackamas County jail.
