Man shot in buttocks while watching fireworks
SEATTLE - A man who stepped outside to check out the fireworks in South Seattle after midnight Sunday was shot in the buttocks, police said.
The man told officers he was at a house party near 46th Avenue South and South Othello Street at about 12:50 a.m. when he heard a lot of fireworks outside.
The man then walked out into the front yard to check out the fireworks and was struck in the buttocks with a single random shot.
He went back into the party, talked to his cousin and they went to Swedish Hospital for medical treatment. His injuries are non-life-threatening.
Police said there was another party nearby attended by many people that officers thought might have been the source of the gunshot.
But further investigation was unable to confirm that there was any gunfire at that party, and the hosts of the party complied with police requests to clear out a number of the people there.
"It appears this was a random incident and the shot wasn’t intended for the victim and may have not even come from the area," said a Seattle police statement.
