WASHOUGAL, Wash. - Police in Washougal say they now have no reason to believe that a man broke into a child's bedroom early Tuesday morning.

Police spent the morning searching for a suspect after getting a report that a man had entered a girl's bedroom at a home on Addy Street.

A grandmother who cares for her two granddaughters (a 4-year-old and a 5-year-old) lives there and she said her older granddaughter began screaming hysterically around 5 a.m., saying there was a man with a red hat in her room. The other child was sleeping and did not see anything.

The woman said the 5-year-old is "scared to death of men," but that she had "never seen her that hysterical - never, ever." However, she did add that the girls had claimed the same thing a few months ago.

Police later said the report was unfounded and the case was no longer under investigation. They did not release any further details.
