Flags to fly at half-staff for Sgt. Brennan Gibson
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) - Governor Kulongoski has ordered flags at public institutions be flown at half-staff Wednesday in memory of Sergeant Brennan Gibson.
The 26-year-old Tualatin man died in Iraq on December 10 when an explosive detonated near his vehicle. He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 509th Infantry, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division in Fort Richardson, Alaska.
Gibson attended Thurston High School in Eugene and Oregon State University, where he reportedly met his wife.
She gave birth to a child just before he left to serve in Iraq.The family lived in Alaska.
Family and loved ones are holding his funeral services and internment Wednesday.
