NEAR BATTLE GROUND, Wash. - Dive teams spent hours Thursday evening searching for a swimmer after a Clark County deputy saw a teen jump from a bridge and couldn't be sure if she got out of the water or not.

The incident happened at Daybreak Park along the east fork of the Lewis River.  It's a 30-foot drop to the water.

The deputy saw the teen jump and never saw her again.  There was no guarantee the girl was still in the water but a search was launched just in case.

By late Thursday evening, searchers had found nothing to indicate the teen was still there.  They interviewed other swimmers, who said they only heard a splash.

Rescue crews said this was a typical response to give someone in need the best opportunity to survive.

Jumping from the bridge is illegal but police would like to hear from anyone who did so around 7:30 p.m. when the girl disappeared.  They said no one will be in any trouble, that they just want to know that everyone is OK.

UPDATE:

The Clark County Sheriff's Office said Friday that they had received no missing person reports and believe the girl got out of the water safely. They did not plan to continue searching Friday.
