THE DALLES, Ore. -- Trooper Michael Holloran was sitting in his Oregon State Police patrol car on the shoulder of Interstate 84 when he heard a fast-approaching vehicle at 7:18 a.m. on June 18, 2009.

Holloran looked in the sideview mirror and saw the motorcyclist lose control.

The in-dash camera in Holloran's patrol car captured the rest:

The motorcycle slides by on its side.

Then the motorcyclist tumbles into view.

As he comes to a rest, the motorcyclist manages to stands up.

The motorcyclist stumbles around for a moment as Holloran runs to his side.

The motorcyclist -- Kenneth Carl Theiman Jr., 31, of Dallesport, Wash. -- estimated his speed when he lost control was about 85 mph.

Theiman recently pleaded guilty to Careless Driving. OSP released the video as a public caution about how quickly drivers can lose control at high speeds.

"It only takes a second for something to happen that you may have to react to while keeping your vehicle under control," said OSP The Dalles Area Command Sergeant Pat Shortt.
