Caught on video: Motorcyclist loses control at 85 mph

By KVAL.com staffTHE DALLES, Ore. -- Trooper Michael Holloran was sitting in his Oregon State Police patrol car on the shoulder of Interstate 84 when he heard a fast-approaching vehicle at 7:18 a.m. on June 18, 2009. Holloran looked in the sideview mirror and saw the motorcyclist lose control. The in-dash camera in Holloran's patrol car captured the rest: The motorcycle slides by on its side.
Then the motorcyclist tumbles into view.
As he comes to a rest, the motorcyclist manages to stands up.
The motorcyclist stumbles around for a moment as Holloran runs to his side.
The motorcyclist -- Kenneth Carl Theiman Jr., 31, of Dallesport, Wash. -- estimated his speed when he lost control was about 85 mph. Theiman recently pleaded guilty to Careless Driving. OSP released the video as a public caution about how quickly drivers can lose control at high speeds. "It only takes a second for something to happen that you may have to react to while keeping your vehicle under control," said OSP The Dalles Area Command Sergeant Pat Shortt. |
