AC overuse ignites Beaverton apartment fire

BEAVERTON, Ore. – An overworked air conditioner and an overheated electrical system sparked an apartment fire in Beaverton on Tuesday.

All of the residents, which included three children, made it out safely.

Firefighters said the fire started at the Lynmarie Apartments on Center Street when an electrical circuit overheated after the family used their air conditioner for days on end.

The overheated circuit ignited the surrounding insulation and then the wood itself, causing about $20,000 in damage.
