OREGON CITY, Ore. – Carl Worthington’s defense attorney is moving to block Friday’s sentencing because he said the court set too low a standard for convicting the father.

The Oregonian reported Worthington’s lawyer said prosecutors should have proved Worthington knew withholding medical care would harm his 15-month-old daughter Ava.

A jury convicted Carl Worthington last Thursday of criminal mistreatment in the death of his daughter, Ava, after the father relied on faith healing when she fell ill, instead of seeking medical treatment.
