Railway: Elderly woman was trespasser

SKAMANIA COUNTY, Wash. -- Investigators have not yet released the identity of a woman killed in a train accident in Skamania County.

Burlington Northern officials said it happened Friday afternoon, five miles west of White Salmon, Wash.

Investigators said she was watching windsurfers with her daughter from the tracks, when she turned and stepped into the side of the  lead locomotive, which was running at 55 miles per hour. The train was on its way from Roosevelt, Wash., to Seattle.

Witnesses said the train was whistling repeatedly. 

The woman is described as 87 years old, and is believed to be a Washington resident. Train officials report this as "the seventh death of trespassers" in Washington state in 2009.
