Whale watch volunteer training coming up

CHARLESTON, Ore. (AP) - Training for whale watching volunteers will be offered February 10 and 11 at the Oregon Institute of Marine Biology in Charleston.

The training will focus on preparing for spring whale watch week, which is March 24 through March 31.

Volunteers are trained to provide information on the gray whales and help visitors see them at 28 whale watching sites.

The training will include a presentation by marine biology professor, and author, Carrie Newell.

Application forms and a volunteer packet may be obtained by contacting the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department's Depoe Bay Whale Watching Interpretive Center at (541) 765-3304.
